Top 10 Most Endangered Animals
Babirusa
A noticeable characteristic of the Babirusa is the tusk on male Babirusa. The tusk pierces through the facial skin. Their numbers are declining because of hunting and deforestation.
Alligator Snapping Turtle
The Alligator snapping turtle has powerful jaws that can bite off human fingers. However, many have been caught for food or to have as pets, and now there is concern that they may be in danger of extinction.
Bald Uakari
The Bald Uakari has a hairless face that looks like a human baby or sometimes even an old man. Hunting and deforestation have put them on the brink of extinction.
Marina Flying Fox
The Marina Flying Fox is disappearing because people ate too many of its kind. Large numbers of Marina flying foxes were captured for food and already disappeared from several islands.
The Bactrian camel is a large, even-toed ungulate native to the steppes of Central Asia. The Bactrian camel has two humps on its back, in contrast to the single-humped dromedary camel.
Bactrian Camels have developed special adaptations to allow them to survive in such a brutal environment.
The Philippine eagle, also known as the monkey-eating eagle or Great Philippine Eagle, is an eagle of the family Accipitridae endemic to the forest of the Philippines. Massive arched beak and long crown feathers. Only Blue-eyed bird of prey in the world, with eyes that can see eight times the distance than that of humans. Found only in the island of Philippines - on the islands of Luzon, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao. Estimated population of only 400 pairs remaining in the wild.
Vaquita
The Vaquita is a species of porpoise endemic to the northern part of the Gulf of California that is on the brink of extinction. Discovered in 1948, as of early 2018 only about 15 individuals remain. The word vaquita is Spanish for "Little Cow".
The Brown Spider monkey received its name due to its long limbs, which help it to swing and climb on trees. Its tail is also flexible enough that it is considered more of a limb due to its precision and usability when being used to hang on branches. The population of 60 has been the result of relentless hunting and wild animal trades which usually occur in Northern Colombia and Northwest Venezuela.
The World's smallest population of Mountain Gorillas - a subspecies of eastern gorilla - is split into two and scientists have debated whether they may be two separate subspecies. A bit more than half live in the Virunga Mountains, a range of extinct volcanoes that border the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. The remainder can be found in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.
The Great One-Horned Rhinoceros, alias Indian Rhinoceros, are listed as one of the vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The animal can be found in India and Nepal, particularly in the foothills of the Himalayas. Poaching of horns is an important reason for the decline in the number if the Indian Rhinoceros.
The White Rhino is the largest Rhino species and the largest land mammal after the elephant. During the Mughal Era, the rulers used to use Great One-Horned Rhino in fights against elephants as entertainment. The Rhinos would often win. Thankfully, this sport is no longer practised or permitted.
